I've been following this dog trainer for a long time (I love her books!) and was really psyched to see that she has a video up now about this.
It's only a couple minutes long but it's really helpful.

When training a shih tzu, take the dog out every 30 minutes to avoid accidents, introduce the “heel” command, and practice the “sit” command while the dog is still a puppy. Train a shih tzu from an early age with information from a certified dog behaviorist in this free video on dog breeds.
