Puppy mills are commercial dog-breeding operations – some on a massive scale, other people are Mom-Pop backyard, basement or garage set-ups. Profit is provided precedence over quality. The physical, mental and social properly being with the puppies and breeding stock puppies are not important.
Responsible breeders place priority on producing the healthiest, happiest, and most well adjusted puppies achievable; sparing no expense. Just the opposite is true for reproduction at pup mills. There is NO consideration of genetic quality, mental/physical health, and/or socialization. Puppy mills are shocking. There is minor to no concern for your wellbeing and well currently being of propagation stock canines or their puppies. The result of all this reproduction is thousands and thousands of puppies, many with behavior and/or wellness problems. They are given small to no exercise.
They are also destroyed for obvious breed disqualifications for instance wrong coat color or pattern or wrong eye color. Many are born deaf or blind or so full of worms, nothing can be done to save them. Others are marketed knowingly, with heartworm, or other parasitic diseases mainly because these are kept in filthy outside cages or kennels.
Typically pup mill puppies are offered through what is referred to as a Class B broker and/or middleman to flea markets, on-line sites and pet shops. The majority in no way acquire them…others are falsified.
There is absolutely no rational justification for puppy mills.
The bulk of them are overcrowded, illness ridden, unsanitary and ruthless. Most often, the breeding stock once “used up”, if not slaughtered inhumanely or marketed to research labs, will live the rest their short lives caged in unsafe, and unsanitary conditions. They will collect the least amount of low quality food needed to sustain them.
Even on the outside chance the breeding stock and their puppies wind up within the hands of a Class B broker, they’ll receive tiny or no veterinary care, typically leading to significant medical problems. Dogs and young puppies that have by no means been socialized with people, particularly youngsters normally have severe behavioral problems.
